Maegan Basl

Counseling Intern

staff herndon

Hi, I’m Maegan!

I’m a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Marymount University and a Counseling Intern. Before entering the counseling field, I spent six years working in special education across elementary, middle, and high school settings. My experiences supporting students with diverse learning, developmental, emotional, and behavioral needs helped shape my interest in creating spaces where people feel understood, respected, and supported as individuals.

I’m passionate about providing LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodiversity-affirming care and am especially interested in working with adolescents, young adults, and adults navigating ADHD, depression, life transitions, identity development, anxiety, and relationship concerns.

My approach to counseling is grounded in warmth, collaboration, and genuine connection. I don’t believe people are problems to be fixed or reduced to a label. Instead, I see healing as a process of curiosity, understanding, reflection, and making sense of our experiences within the larger context of our lives and relationships.

In my work, I draw from an integrative approach grounded in person-centered and relational therapy, with particular interests in ACT, DBT, and IFS. I approach counseling through a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens, tailoring the process to each client’s individual needs.
