Learn More About Our Therapists in Reno; Featuring Tatyana Maizel

Hi, I’m Tatyana! I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) at Pathways Family and Community Services Reno, and my goal is to offer you a space that feels safe, supportive, and genuinely compassionate; somewhere you can explore what’s going on inside without judgment, and at your own pace.

I earned my Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and later completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I’m a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), and I’m trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have also recently completed the first steps in receiving certification for Ketamine-Assisted EMDR (KA-EMDR) because I’m always looking for thoughtful, effective ways to support healing, especially for trauma.

One of my earliest passions in therapy has been grief work, and it remains close to my heart. I spend a significant portion of my practice helping clients move through loss in a way that feels honoring and manageable. I’m also deeply drawn to trauma work, particularly complex or relational trauma (C-PTSD). In addition, I work with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, and building coping skills. I have experience working with adolescents, adults, and couples, and I welcome people from all backgrounds, belief systems, and walks of life.

Because of personal experiences working closely with veterans, I have a special interest in working with men, especially those who may not have been given much space to explore their emotional worlds. I enjoy helping men connect with their emotions, learn regulation skills, identify personal patterns, and develop healthier ways of communicating and coping through EMDR so they can heal and grow into their best selves.

Though I am originally from the East Coast, my husband and I moved to Reno for two simple but meaningful reasons: mountains and healing. We had long dreamed of living in the mountains, and Reno felt like the right fit with family nearby and a deep love for Lake Tahoe that originated years back. You can often find me outside taking advantage of the wonderful hiking, lifting weights, spending time with my family, getting lost in a book, writing, or getting creative in the kitchen. Overall, the beauty of Reno with its access to nature, such as bodies of water and stunning national parks, aligned with my family and allowed us to heal from past challenges, reconnect with our spirituality, and continue growing with the support of providers who truly aligned with our values. It is my goal to bring that same sense of peace and healing to my clients.

I offer both in-person and virtual sessions, with virtual counseling holding a special place in my heart. The evolution of technology, especially since COVID, has created powerful opportunities to make therapy more accessible and flexible. Virtual sessions allow me to stay connected with clients even when travel, weather, distance, or disability might otherwise get in the way. They also make it easy to share resources in real time, like worksheets, videos, or helpful tools, and allow multiple people to join sessions from different locations when needed which supports continuity of care.

Looking ahead, I hope to expand my practice by growing my work through teaching experiences, workshops, therapy retreats, and ongoing engagements with the veteran population. This may look like special offerings found only at the Pathways Family and Community Services Reno office, so stay tuned!

If you’re considering therapy, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
